Also happening tonight is the Community Action Center’s fundraiser and fashion show: Runway Revival: Reduce. Reuse. Refashion. This is not your typical fashion show! It celebrates the creative talents of local artists who have designed wearable pieces using 90% recycled, upcycled, and reused materials. Here’s Anika Rychner the Senior Director of the CAC sharing some examples of what outfits are made of:
“For example, I would say I’m making your dress out of our old swimming pool. So the liner of a swimming pool would be something you would not expect to wear. I would. There’s actually. There’s a really cool piece this year made out of an old couch.” – Anika Rychner, Senior Director of the CAC, on KYMN In The Morning

The focus of reuse and recycling isn’t just in the fashion or outfits, but in the whole event, which is a zero-waste event. The funds raised from Runway Revival go to support the CAC’s environmentally sustainable efforts. Rychner says that the event was started in part in response to the current situation around clothing and fast fashion:
“And I, yeah, I think it makes a statement. Those statement pieces reflect on what our fast fashion world does to the environment, and you know, bringing information, bringing education, and things to light about thrifting and recycling and reusing.” – Anika Rychner, Senior Director of the CAC, on KYMN In The Morning
She noted that the money raised from this event goes to support the CAC which currently helps 1 in 4 residents in Northfield:
“Mostly for things like food, but also housing resources, other employment resources, people who are maybe behind in their rents and at risk of eviction. Keeping people housed is really important in a lot of the work that we do. But yeah, I think the cost of groceries, the cost of housing right now.” – Anika Rychner, Senior Director of the CAC, on KYMN In The Morning
The event tonight runs from 6 pm to 9 pm, with the fashion show starting at 7:15 pm. Tickets at the door cost $40. There are several silent auction items available for bidding and raffle ticket drawings. A Zero waste showcase will also be on display as well. The event takes place at the Weitz Center for Creativity at Carleton College. Will have additional information linked on our website in today’s news.
