In early March 2020, just before the UK went into Covid lockdown for the first time, Reggie was a sporty, confident 11-year-old boy, enjoying his final months of primary school.
“My primary school was great. I was really happy. It didn’t look like I was going to have any issues with anxiety whatsoever,” he said.
But the first lockdown, which began five years ago today, changed everything. Like so many children of his generation, Reggie, now 16, who is taking his GCSEs this summer, developed anxiety.

Today, he is one of 55 students attending the UK’s only “hybrid” school where all pupils, aged 11 to 18, do a combination of going into school and being taught at home.
