BREAKING: Shop worker who stabbed manager multiple times to be held in specialist facility in UK indefinitely

A SHOP worker who stabbed his manager multiple times with a kitchen knife will be held in a secure facility in the UK to protect the public.

Trevor Robert John Green went on trial this week at the Royal Court for attempted murder and grave and criminal assault.

The stabbing took place at the Caste Quay branch of Morrisons on 18 November 2023 leaving the victim with “life-threatening” injuries.

The 35-year-old woman was initially treated at the General Hospital, going into cardiac arrest twice before being taken into surgery, and was then transferred to Southampton Hospital.

The court heard that Green, who was employed as a special customer assistant, attacked the woman with a kitchen knife that had a 20cm blade following a dispute over the store’s yellow label policy for discounted items.

The woman sustained seven stab wounds, including a 3cm wound to her neck that hit an artery and vein, as well as injuries to her stomach, back, forearm, shoulder blade, fingers and ear.

Jurats of the Royal Court returned a “special verdict” in the case on Tuesday afternoon following a two-day trial.

They imposed a treatment order, restriction order and restraining order on Green, with the latter meaning he cannot contact or approach the victim.

Green will be held in a specialist facility in the UK, where he has been on remand, indefinitely – with the potential for review.

Sir William Ballhache, the judge who was presiding, said the orders were being imposed to “ensure that no one else is harmed”, to protect the public rather than as a punishment, in light of the psychiatric evidence.

Two consultant forensic psychiatrists, who examined Mr Green, agreed he suffered from a long-term, untreated paranoid psychotic illness that caused delusions and told the court they did not believe he had capacity to be a part of proceedings.
