A CBP Air and Marine Operations aircraft was on a border security mission when the crash happened, a CBP spokesperson said.
POTRERO, Calif. — A Customs and Border Protection agent was killed in a helicopter crash at the end of Round Potrero Road near the U.S.-Mexico border Monday morning, a CBP spokesperson confirmed.
A CBP Air and Marine Operations aircraft was on a border security mission when the crash happened, the spokesperson said. The spokesperson called the crash an “aviation mishap” but it is unclear at this time what lead to the crash.
The CBP Air Interdiction Agent was the pilot and only person in the aircraft.
The fatal accident was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. off Round Potrero Road, north of state Route 94 and south of Barrett Lake in Potrero, according to Cal Fire.
No identity has been released at this time.
