Last week, BoF Careers welcomed fashion and beauty leaders to the Shangri-La hotel in Paris for a presentation exploring the evolving employment landscape in fashion and beauty — and how today’s employers can better meet the needs of their workforce.
The presentation explored key themes and learnings from the recent BoF Careers knowledge report, What Fashion and Beauty Professionals Want From Employers, and from a survey of more than 1,000 members from the global BoF community across 74 countries and territories, representing a variety of seniority levels and age groups.

The survey revealed widespread workplace dissatisfaction, with 45 percent of working professionals saying they are looking for a new job outside their current company, while only 4 percent said they are looking for a new job at their current place of work.
Such retention issues have serious financial repercussions for employers. Workplace consultancy Gallup estimates that replacing an employee costs between 50 percent and 200 percent of their annual salary, and that low employee engagement globally accounts for $8.9 trillion in lost productivity — equivalent to 9 percent of global GDP.
Presented by The Business of Fashion’s commercial features director Sophie Soar and content strategy senior associate Annabel Bolton, the BoF Careers event decoded employee needs and expectations today, from hybrid working to company culture and leadership values. They also shared tangible industry advice on strategies for recruitment and retention, to navigate the conflicting demands of the global workforce today.
