NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMC) – A bill that would restrict cell phone use in Tennessee is headed to the governor’s desk.
On Monday, the House passed a bill requiring public schools to develop policies blocking students from using cell phones, tablets and smartwatches during class instruction.
The same bill passed the Senate on Thursday.
The bill would require local boards of education and each public charter school governing body to create and adopt a policy to restrict cell phone use in schools, with some exceptions for emergencies.
The bill passed the Senate with a 30-0 vote, following an 80-10-1 vote in the House.
The bill will now head to Governor Bill Lee’s desk, where he could choose to sign it into law.
