Beijing eases travel for Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan residents

The National Immigration Administration of China (NIA) has announced two new measures, effective immediately, to streamline travel and identification for Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan residents traveling in mainland China.

The first measure allows residents who lose, damage, or forget their travel permit to apply for a temporary permit via the NIA mobile platform — in an electronic format.

Valid for seven days, the permit can be verified by airlines, railways, and other transport providers.

The second one enables residents to link their travel and residence permits for personal matters.

Requests can be submitted through the e-service platform or at public security immigration offices nationwide. The linkage serves as proof for relevant departments and businesses.

Additionally, sectors providing services to these residents can connect to the NIA’s document identity verification platform to automate permit verification processes.
