With advances in artificial intelligence, deep fakes and bogus content are becoming harder to detect.
A new app called Sora is encouraging people to upload their own images and audio to create AI videos.
OpenAI, the company behind it, is marketing the app as a fun feature, but con artists and criminals are capitalizing on this to steal your money and your identity.
This is especially important to be aware of as your holiday shopping because criminals are using AI to spoof real websites and apps like Amazon and Walmart.
AI can make it impossible to detect the difference between a bogus one and a real one with the human eye.
But there is an app called Scam Check from a company called Trend Micro.
It’s available for both Android and Apple devices for $1.99 a month or $20 for the year.
There are others like it, and some are even free.
The technology scans emails, text messages, websites, and videos for you and then blocks or sends you alerts about bad or bogus ones.
Scam Check’s AI looks for visual and audio anomalies by scanning my voice as well. It takes just seconds.
We also tested it on bogus videos, and it was able to correctly identify those as AI-generated.
