Each year, Presidents Day is observed on the third Monday in February as a way to honor American presidents.
The holiday began as a celebration of George Washington’s birthday, the first president of the United States, born Feb. 22, 1732.

Salem-Keizer Public Schools, Portland Public Schools and Bend-La Pine Schools are among the K-12 school districts closed on Presidents Day.
Both Oregon State University and the University of Oregon are open and have classes on Presidents Day.
