Apple’s once revolutionary Apple Silicon M1 Pro processor is being given a second life by a Chinese craftsman as a $13 hair clip.
Humans generate an enormous amount of waste — and most of it ends up in landfills. But a growing movement is working to intercept that cycle by giving discarded materials a second life.
One small-time designer has done just that. X user YuuKi_AnS has taken the Apple M1 Pro and upcycled it into a hair clip.
The clips surfaced on Goofish, which is a Chinese second-hand platform akin to Depop or Poshmark. Goofish is owned by Alibaba.
As far as we can tell, the entire design consists of an Apple M1 Pro clip glued — or otherwise affixed — to a plastic barrette. Not exactly the most transformative upcycle, it is worth noting that it only costs 90 Yuan — about $12.50.
If you’re interested in snagging one for yourself, they’re only available upon request through the Goofish app or website. Of course, that assumes the seller would ship to the US in the first place, which they do not appear to do.
Interestingly enough, YuuKi_AnS has a track record as a pretty reliable Apple Silicon leaker, too.
Upcycling old tech into fashion isn’t a new phenomenon. DIY communities and indie designers have long been transforming discarded gadgets into wearable art.
But now it seems like some of the larger players want in on the fun, too.
