Android Auto bug causes giant apps and icons for some users

Android Auto 13.7 update now rolling out, hints at new apps

An ongoing Android Auto bug has surfaced again, with the issue causing icons and entire apps to be oversized with a zoomed-in look.

For the past few months, a bug has been popping up on occasion for Android Auto users that causes icons and apps to show in an oversized, almost zoomed-in state. It causes some homescreen icons to not be fully visible and, when it affects app interfaces, it makes the app fully unusable.

This week, a Reddit thread was highlighted, which resurfaced this problem. A Pixel 3 XL owner noted that their Android Auto icons were giant and zoomed-in, and both Google Maps and Spotify were suffering from the same issue, rendering both unusable and almost unrecognizable.

But this isn’t a standalone case. A few other users commented saying they were seeing the same problem, and we found further examples over the past month on Google’s forums with the exact same issue.

We’ve been tracking this problem for a while now, as it first popped up back in May for some users. At the time, it appeared to be a limited issue in beta, but these latest reports suggest it might have popped up in the stable track, though not all of the affected users have yet to share their app versions. One user says they’re on Android Auto 15.1, which started its stable rollout earlier this week.

This issue still seems to be wildly inconsistent and not tied to any specific Android Auto version.
