Several guinea pigs at Dakin Humane Society are ready for their new homes, including a special pair of sisters: Nacho and Squeaky.
This three-year-old duo, an Abyssinian and a Peruvian Long-haired guinea pig, “look like they stepped out of a fashion magazine with their striking good looks and amazing hair,” the organization wrote.
These two are a bonded pair and must be adopted together, as guinea pigs are very social animals. While Nacho, the more nervous of two, may need some time to warm up, Squeaky will quickly become a new best friend, especially with plenty of head scratches and snacks.
Like most caged animals, guinea pigs need time out of their cage to run around and get exercise.
“It’s also a great opportunity to bond with your new friends and get a better idea about their personalities,” Dakin wrote.
Owners of these little fur babies should also make sure the “free range” area is “guinea pig-proofed” meaning that electrical cords and wires are out of reach. The same goes for potted plants and any kind of valuables or items they might ingest.
Dakin has 11 guinea pigs available for adoption on their website and the fee is held at $35 no matter if someone chooses one, two or three piggies.
“We want to encourage people to have friends for their resident guinea pigs,” Dakin said. “… or if they’re adopting their first, to bring along a companion.”
