Charges filed after suspect shot during string of dating app armed robberies

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Lee’s Summit man has been arrested and charged after he was shot during a string of armed robberies that were set up through dating apps.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, Feb. 19, have revealed that Quinten Rainner, 28, of Lee’s Summit, has been charged in connection to a string of dating app armed robberies.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department indicated that Rainner had been involved in a string of armed robberies between Feb. 6 and Feb. 19.

During each instance, investigators said they found a woman who has not been identified marked men on the dating site Plenty of Fish, met up with them and distracted them before Rainner robbed them at gunpoint.

Law enforcement officials said four victims reported they had met a woman on Plenty of Fish and planned to meet up with her. When they did, Rainner allegedly appeared each time with a gun in hand as he robbed them of phones, a vehicle and more.

However, during a fifth incident, the victim said he attempted to meet up with Rainner after they met on Facebook Dating. Ultimately, the pair made it inside Rainner’s vehicle when the unidentified woman held the victim at gunpoint as Rainner attempted to rob him.

After Rainner hit the fifth victim in the face, he said he was able to escape and began to run. He only turned around when he heard a gunshot and saw that Rainner was the one who was hit.

Ultimately, law enforcement officials said they found Rainner at Research Medical Center where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. He admitted to everything up until the fifth robbery during which he claimed the victim pulled the gun and shot him.

As a result, Rainner has been charged with five counts of armed criminal action, four counts of robbery, a single count of attempted robbery and a single count of vehicle hijacking. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 210 years – or life – in prison.

Court documents indicated that Rainner was arrested at the time of his release from the hospital. As of Sunday, Feb. 23, he remains behind bars with no bond listed.

A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, with a preliminary hearing expected at 2 p.m. on March 19. No further information has been released.
