Rollover crash on US 77 claims three lives, leaves one seriously injured

One other occupant of the car crash was seriously injured.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A fatal rollover crash on US 77 last Friday left three Houston residents dead and another seriously injured, according to DPS.

Authorities said Paula Sanchez, 69, was driving in the southbound lane, just 36 miles south of Sarita near mile marker 740 in the inside lane, when she swerved into another lane and entered a grassy median.

Sanchez attempted to regain control of the vehicle, but reportedly overcorrected, causing it to skid sideways across both southbound lanes and leaving the roadway, rolling over onto its left side.

All four occupants were ejected from the vehicle and, at the time of the accident, were reportedly not wearing seatbelts.

The vehicle came to rest on the railroad tracks. Sanchez, along with 92-year-old Raymundo Medina and 77-year-old Rebeca Davila were pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Norrell.

The fourth occupant, 54-year-old Israel Guerrero-Vazquez was transported to Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by Troopers from the Kingsville Highway Patrol Office.
