– £200 million Investment to create a new UK-wide ultra-fast EV charging network under the Duracell E-Charge brand
– The sites will be developed by established EV charging business The EV Network
– The development represents a significant moment for a household energy brand entering the EV charging space
Duracell – one of the world’s most trusted battery brands – has championed the launch of Duracell E-Charge, a new nationwide ultra-fast EV charging network that aims to accelerate the UK’s transition to electric mobility.
Backed by more than £200 million in planned investment, over the next decade, Duracell E-Charge promises to deliver one of the country’s most dependable and accessible charging networks, helping to address one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption — reliable, high-speed public charging.
This represents a major household energy company entering the charging infrastructure market, something that will deliver a trusted brand for the new early mainstream EV driver.
“Duracell has always been a trusted companion in people’s lives, delivering long-lasting performance, uncompromising safety and a commitment to sustainability,” said Javier Hernandez Reta, Chief Marketing Officer at Duracell. “Today, electric vehicle drivers can travel even further, confidently and sustainably, with Duracell E-Charge leading the way.”
Trusted power meets electric mobility
Duracell E-Charge’s entry into the EV charging market marks a major moment for consumer confidence in the UK’s EV journey. The launch brings together Duracell’s legacy of reliability, in partnership with long-established electric vehicle charging business, The EV Network, who have a long track record in building out large-scale charging infrastructure projects.
To operate the network, Duracell has granted a licence to Elektra Charge, a newly formed charge point operator (CPO) that will manage day-to-day operations. The sites themselves will be developed and funded by The EV Network (EVN).
“The need in the UK for faster, more reliable charging to keep pace with EV adoption is clear,” said Reza Shaybani, CEO of The EV Network. “Duracell E-Charge is a direct response to that challenge. The EV Network has already delivered some of the UK’s biggest charging hubs, and now we’re bringing that expertise to one of the world’s most recognised brands.”
Ultra-fast charging and driver confidence
The new Duracell E-Charge hubs will offer ultra-fast charging of up to 1,000 kW, enabling drivers to charge their vehicles faster than ever before, again driving early mainstream charging confidence. Each location will be designed for maximum uptime, intuitive usability, and driver convenience, with round-the-clock customer support and multiple payment options including contactless, in-app and plug-and-go.
Duracell E-Charge’s first six nationwide sites are expected to go live in 2025, with a rapid rollout planned for 2026 and beyond. The network will prioritise strategic high-traffic locations including motorways, retail destinations, hospitality venues, and urban gateways, ensuring drivers can charge wherever and whenever they need.
Charging made simple
“Charging your car should be as simple as changing the batteries in your remote,” said Mark Bloxham, Managing Director of Duracell E-Charge. “We’re bringing Duracell’s trusted reliability into the EV era. Plug. Play. Go.”
Designed around driver needs, each Duracell E-Charge site will feature user-friendly interfaces, clear navigation, and transparent pricing, ensuring that convenience and reliability are always at the heart of the experience.
A bright charge for the future
With electric vehicles now representing one in five new cars sold in the UK, the pressure is growing to expand the public charging network. Duracell E-Charge’s entry into the sector could play a pivotal role in giving both new and existing EV drivers the confidence that charging will be fast, accessible and dependable — every time.
The entrance of Duracell E-Charge represents a pivotal moment in the mainstreaming of EV uptake in the UK.
