Police say several suspects stole a Mercedes from a Dover driveway, but the car’s owner watched in real-time as the vehicle traveled to Somerville.

A Dover man whose car was allegedly stolen from his driveway early Thursday was able to help police recover it thanks to a tracking app.

Dover Police responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from a home around 3 a.m., according to a Boston 25 News report.

Police attempted to stop the car, a Mercedes, as it traveled to Needham and onto a highway, but officers backed off because the driver accelerated to an unsafe speed.

According to the report, the vehicle’s owner was able to use tracking software to monitor the car in real-time as it traveled to Somerville. Police were able to recover the vehicle and brought it in for processing.

Investigators said multiple suspects were involved in the theft, though no arrests have been announced. The investigation is ongoing.
