The Coast Guard rescued two fishermen with life-threatening injuries aboard a Maine vessel near Nahant, Massachusetts.
GLOUCESTER, Mass. — The U.S. Coast Guard transported two fishermen with life-threatening injuries to the hospital Friday afternoon.
According to the Coast Guard, the crewmembers were scallop fishing about 25 nautical miles east of Nahant, Massachusetts, aboard the vessel 25 TO LIFE out of Corea, Maine, when a snapped rope struck both men. One crewmember reportedly suffered a concussion and possibly broken ribs. The other had a suspected broken neck and was in and out of consciousness.
A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod and small boats from Stations Gloucester and Point Allerton were immediately launched.
The injured fishermen were taken to a Gloucester pier and transported to Beverly Hospital. The Coast Guard has not released any updates on their conditions.
The incident remains under investigation.
