Loewe Showcases 25 Teapots
For its ninth showing at Salone, the Spanish house, which recently tapped Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez as creative directors, recruited 25 artists, designers, and architects to create teapots that celebrate the spirit of craft. The artists—Edmund de Waal, Walter Prince, and David Chipperfield among them—play with the conventions and cultural understandings around tea, and have created pieces that range from the fully literal to the very abstract. Loewe is also selling a Salone homewares collection that includes coasters and leather charms.
Prada Frames Examines the Concept of Transit

This year, Prada’s annual symposium Prada Frames is titled “In Transit,” and examined the infrastructure that moves both people and thoughts. The settings for the discussions included the Arlecchino, a ’50s-style train designed by Gio Ponti and Giulio Minoletti, which was recently restored, and Padiglione Reale, an ornate waiting area at Milan’s Central Station that was once reserved for royalty and heads of state.

Louis Vuitton Introduces Its First Home Collection

As part of Salone, Louis Vuitton launched Louis Vuitton Home Collections at Milan’s gorgeous Palazzo Serbelloni. The new line includes furniture and lighting, as well as tableware and textiles and games. (Pharrell apparently inspired a pinball machine.) It expands upon the mouse’s much-loved Objets Nomades, which offers limited-edition works by bold name designers like India Mahdavi and the Campana brothers. Visitors to the Palazzo Serbelloni will able to see the new line alongside Objets Nomades pieces.
La DoubleJ Unveils a New HQ

The Milan-based label, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year, opened up a new headquarters in the city’s Navigli district. The “LDJ Starquarters,” a five-story building, will focus on harnessing positive energy. La DoubleJ is also releasing new iterations of its Napoli Rosa homeware collection. For Salone, the brand is holding a week’s worth of events, including tarot card readings, sessions with sound healers in the newly opened Gong Temple, located on the roof of its new building, and an open house at the La DoubleJ showroom.

Miu Miu Brings Back Its Literary Club

Last year, Miu Miu launched its Literary Club with a program titled “Writing Life.” This year’s second chapter, called “A Woman’s Education,” will focus on girlhood and love, as seen through the groundbreaking midcentury works of Simone de Beauvoir and Japanese author Fumiko Enchi. Two days of performances and talks will include appearances by authors such as Lauren Elkin, Geetanjali Shree, and Naoise Dolan.
Gucci Presents ‘Bamboo Encounters’

A new exhibit from Gucci explores the role that bamboo has played in the house’s illustrious history. Staged at the 16th-century Milan monastery Chiostri di San Simpliciano, “Bamboo Encounters” was curated by architect Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli. Among the multidisciplinary works are sculptures, bamboo baskets, and kites.

Kartell Celebrates 25 Years of Lighting

The celebrated design brand is marking the anniversary of its famed lighting line with an exhibit at the Milan flagship store that will include its most iconic lamps and lighting pieces. The Kartell Museum is also turning 25, and will host a retrospective of the work of Italian industrial designer Joe Colombo and his contributions to Kartell. The brand will also be releasing new products and re-editions, including a reissue of the Joe Colombo’s 1964 KD28 lamp.
Loro Piana and Dimoremilano Create an Immersive Experience

Loro Piana worked with furniture studio Dimoremilano to stage a an installation within the Loro Piana headquarters. Inspired by design archetypes from the ’70s and ’80s, “La Prima Notte di Quiete” is a cinematically staged fictional home with furniture designed by Dimoremilano for Loro Piana, pieces from the Loro Piana collection The Art of Good Living, and artworks from Milan galleries.
