Dickinson County releases sheriff department smartphone app

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) – Right now, anyone with a smartphone can know almost everything about the Dickinson County sheriff department without even using Google.

That’s thanks to a new app the Dickinson County Sheriff Department launched with help from The Sheriff App.

David Garrison is a business development agent for The Sheriff App’s parent company OCV and works with emergency service agencies across Michigan.

He says the app acts as a central hub for everything related to a sheriff department.

“I believe social media has its place,” Garrison said. “With a custom mobile app platform for the local sheriff’s office, it provides them with the ability to, in effect, become their own media source.”

The Dickinson County Sheriff Department app also has the contact information for the county treasurer and clerk’s office.

Mental health and addiction resources for both Dickinson and Iron counties are also in the app.

Dickinson County Sheriff Aaron Rochon says the app is the one-stop-shop for Dickinson County Services.

“It does benefit more than just the sheriff’s office,” Rochon said. “I wanted to kind of spread that and make it as beneficial as possible to the public and to the individual agencies.”

In Upper Michigan, Marquette and Chippewa counties also have a sheriff department app.

Rochon says the app could get more features in the future.

“I will be thinking of ways that I can utilize it better to reach the public,” Rochon said. “Also, if there are any ideas, I’m more than open to listen to them and maybe we incorporate some.”

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department App can be found in the Android and Apple app stores.
