At the Dauji Maharaj Temple, locals and foreign tourists were seen drenched in coloured water as they marked the celebrations with folk music, dance and powdered colours.
Celebrating an age-old tradition, men from neighbouring towns and villages come to Mathura city and sing provocative songs to invite the attention of women.
The women tear clothes of men and use it as a whip to beat up the menfolk.
Holi heralds the beginning of spring and is celebrated across India along with other South Asian countries. For festival goers, it also represents a time of forgiveness, renewed friendship and the triumph of good over evil.
