5 Must-Have Spring Staples, According to Drew Barrymore and More Stars

5 Must-Have Spring Staples, According to Drew Barrymore and More Stars

Part of my job as a fashion writer is to analyze countless celebrity photos, so I’ve developed an eye for spotting the clothes and accessories that stylish A-listers like Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lawrence, and Martha Stewart keep in heavy rotation. Some of the staples I keep seeing these days are tote bags, flattering one-piece swimsuits, and flare jeans — all of which are completely, absolutely, and utterly necessary for spring. (Can you tell I really mean this?)

If you’re looking to refresh these wardrobe staples, I pulled options from Amazon, Coach, J.Crew, and more popular stores that remind me of the celebrity styles I’ve seen recently. Starting at just $25, they lay the foundation for a wardrobe that can produce put-together outfits with little to no effort.

Tote bags are paramount in the spring and summer for picnics, beach days, and more — and celebrities know it. Both Katie Holmes and Naomi Watts are fans of the Brunello Cucinelli BC Duo Bag, which costs nearly $4,000, and Jennifer Garner has carried a $3,300 Loewe tote

Fortunately, this Amazon find costs way, way less. According to one shopper, it can hold “lunch, laptop, and all of my essentials.” It’s also supposed to be crease-free, per the brand, so you won’t ruin its shape or material when you pack it to the brim.

One-Piece Swimsuits

Rom-com queens Kate Hudson and Drew Barrymore are fond of one-piece bathing suits that are similar to these styles. The Amazon swimsuit has a vibrant tropical print like Barrymore’s, as well as “ample enough support and coverage for a full day of water fun,” wrote one shopper in a review. The cutouts in the back are a nice touch, while the adjustable straps ensure it can sit right where you like it.

Meanwhile Andie Swim is an editor-loved brand that’s been worn by Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling

Long Skirts

Breezy skirts are a first-class alternative to denim and other fabrics that rub and chafe in warmer months. There are no zippers on this one from Amazon, so it’s great for quickly pulling on or off at the pool or beach, and it has real functional pockets. This color is light and bright like J.Law’s and would be pretty for the daytime; a silky black skirt like Hilary Duff’s is a little more glamorous for dinner and drinks.

High Rise Flare Jeans

Carrie Underwood’s exact flare jeans are almost sold out, but luckily, the trendy style that feels like a blast to the past is all over the place. All Levi’s jeans are 30 percent off when you buy direct, and I like this skinny pair that’s a little more low-key, like Meghan Markle’s. They come in three different lengths, so you can find a flare that flatters your height.

Crochet Sweaters

Crochet sweaters are cool in more ways than one. They look springy and cute — hello, Martha Stewart! — and they allow for a constant state of airflow. I found three cute options under $75 that you can layer under a jean jacket in the spring and over a swimsuit in the summer.
