1st March 2025 – (Hong Kong) A 38-year-old man, previously in good health, has been diagnosed with measles after returning to Hong Kong from Vietnam. The Centre for Health Protection reported on 1st March that the patient remains hospitalised in stable condition. His household contacts currently show no symptoms. As the patient did not have any known exposure to measles cases in Hong Kong, his infection has been classified as an imported case.
During the infectious period, the man visited the Hong Kong Sports Institute and dined at its restaurant between 22nd and 25th February. The health authorities are maintaining close communication with the institute to monitor anyone who may have come into contact with the patient.
The patient first exhibited symptoms of diarrhoea on 22nd February and developed a rash by 26nd February. He sought medical attention at the Accident and Emergency Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital on the same day and was subsequently admitted for isolation. Testing of clinical samples confirmed the presence of the measles virus.
According to the information provided by the patient, he travelled to Vietnam during the incubation period from 3rd to 8th February. His travel companions have not reported any symptoms at this time.
