“When I look back at 30 years and see how people continue to watch and love this film, I truly am so delighted and proud,” May exclusively told PEOPLE. “When I first read Amy’s brilliant script, my mind ran wild with imagination of what was possible for Cher, Dionne, Tai and Amber.”

“The fact that these characters and their looks still resonate with so many is amazing and humbling,” she continued. “I wrote The Fashion of Clueless with all the fans, fashionistas and cinephiles in mind. This really is for all of you.”

The new book, which was written with fashion journalist Monica Corcoran Harel and is being published by Insights Editions in partnership with Paramount Pictures, will feature never-before-seen photos of the costumes and costume sketches that May had for the film — from “Cher’s yellow plaid skirt suit to Dionne’s signature hats.”

The cover of the book illustrates this, showing a piece of the plaid skirt in question, along with a black tag featuring May and Harel’s names. The top of the book features a black background with the words, “The Fashion of Clueless.”

According to a synopsis of the book, the designs “brought a new level of glamour and individuality to the teen comedy and set a new standard for fashion in film.”

The Fashion of Clueless helps readers channel their own ‘main character energy,’ making it a must-have for fashion lovers, movie buffs, and Clueless superfans alike,” the synopsis adds.

“When I was making the film, all my creations came from my heart, and it is a very sacred process for a costume designer,” May explained to PEOPLE. “Now with my book, I’m able to share my creativity with everyone and provide a glimpse behind the scenes, plus show never-before-seen photos! I’m super excited for this!”

However, visuals aren’t the only thing the book has to offer. It also contains personal anecdotes from May about creating the film’s timeless and iconic looks and characters and interviews she had with the cast and crew of the movie, including Clueless writer and director, Amy Heckerling, and even the movie’s star, Alicia Silverstone.

“I love that Mona created this beautiful book to help tell the story of her contributions to Clueless,” Silverstone said in a press release for the book. “The film would not have become the classic that it has without her involvement. Her work was magic in Clueless. Truly inspiring and exciting, and so much character. I have worked with Mona many times since. She is fun and feisty and knows how to dress a woman.”
