Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday, an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts. With a win in Wisconsin, Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency.
Vice President Kamala Harris got all 14 of the Garden State’s electoral votes, however, the presidential race here in New Jersey was closer than expected. With 93% of the vote counted Wednesday morning, Harris led Trump by just 5 percentage points. Trump lost New Jersey by 14 points in 2016 and 16 in 2020.
New Jersey saw a massive turnout during early voting, and as of Wednesday, results for county and local races, school boards and ballot questions continue to come in.
New Jersey also had a key U.S. Senate race and elections for 12 New Jersey seats in the House of Representatives.

Voters in several counties will be deciding the fate of ballot measures, including questions on adding more security officers to school districts and questions on selling municipal water utilities to private companies.
One of New Jersey’s last “dry towns” is asking voters if it should allow liquor licenses while another could be the next to allow the sale of marijuana.
