Whether lightweight, embroidered or printed, a bohemian dress will always evoke images of long summer days, whether you’re in a countryside garden or on a Balearic island. While lace, folk-inspired dresses have always been a suitcase staple, many labels are reinventing boho through a more modern lens for 2025, giving ethereal maxi dresses an overhaul, too.
Although they never really left our wardrobes, the bohemian dress became a focal point of the spring/summer 2025 collections, largely thanks to Chloé. Chemena Kamali’s debut collection for Chloé in 2024 resurrected the boho It-girl aesthetic from the Noughties, and for sophomore offering, her romantic vision evolved further with maxi dresses adorned with ruffles, lace and delicate, sheer fabrics.
Flowing, light dresses also graced the Valentino catwalk, where Alessandro Michele used a soft colour palette, adorned with precious details, such as embroidery or rhinestones.
Ralph Lauren, meanwhile, reimagined the bohemian dress in its purest form, with white maxis featuring delicate lace embroidery, a nod to the freedom-filled fashion of the ’70s. A similar gust of nostalgia blew on the Alberta Ferretti catwalk, where the wafting, caped dresses were completely transparent.
Anthony Vaccarello also played the ’70s card at Saint Laurent, albeit with a more moody take on the floor-grazing boho dress, toughened up with leather bomber jackets.
As summer collections are starting to arrive in new-in sections, you’ll find no shortage of floaty, ruffled dresses that will be a trusted sidekick for all of your hot weather plans. Brands that have long mastered the boho aesthetic include the likes of Ulla Johnson and Zimmermann, while this dress trend also unsurprisingly has its grips on the high street. Marks & Spencer has created a beautiful sheer ruffled maxi in mauve and seafoam green, while Mango, Free People and Rixo are reliable destinations for a boho summer.
