Wiltshire Council is reminding all residents registered to vote that local elections for Wiltshire Council and Town, City and Parish Councils are taking place on Thursday 1 May.

Elections will take place for 98 Unitary Wiltshire councillors and 47 City Town and Parish Council areas around the county. Details of the candidates standing for election and which Parish Councils are holding elections can be found on the Notice of Poll notices on the Wiltshire Council website at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/local-elections.

Returning Officer for Wiltshire, Lucy Townsend, said: Voting in these local elections is your opportunity to decide who will be making the decisions that will affect your day to day lives for the next four years.

Poll cards were sent out a few weeks ago, which show the polling station location and also the key deadline dates. Although poll cards are not required to vote they do help speed up the process at the polling station.

Everyone planning to vote on election day will need to make sure they have valid photo ID or apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. Veteran Cards are now an accepted form of ID and can be used in this election.

We’ll be organising more elections in Wiltshire than most other areas in the country and behind the scenes my team is working round the clock to ensure a smooth election process for residents.

We want the county to be as engaged in local democracy as possible and we look forward to welcoming people to the polls in May.
