University of Alabama pride hit the runway on Tuesday night as the Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design hosted ‘The Fashion Playbook’, a gameday themed fashion show spotlighting student creativity.
It was in collaboration with the University’s Office of Trademark and Licensing, the event challenged sophomore and junior fashion design students to create elevated looks inspired by the identity of The University of Alabama. From bold uses of crimson to modern takes on traditional houndstooth, each piece reflected the energy of game day in Tuscaloosa.
The show drew a crowd of students, faculty and community members.
One student designer said the experience was both exciting and personal.
“It’s a way of just like expressing yourself, and expressing your own personal style.” Said Laura Grace Stafford, a sophomore at The University of Alabama majoring in Apparel and Textiles with a design concentration. “There’s just so many different students on this campus with so many different backgrounds and it’s just a great way for us to all come together and just show off who we are, and to just support our team. We love that. Roll Tide!”
Organizers say the goal is to spotlight student talent and bring a new twist to the game day experience through fashion.
A panel of judges will select up to two award winning looks. The selected students will get to attend New York Fashion Week in September through the CLC Fashion Week Program.
The winning student will also get to collaborate with The University of Alabama’s Trademark and Licensing Office to produce their designs with a local retailer.
