Hong Kong authorities arrest 19 people in 4 operations targeting illegal workers

Hong Kong authorities have detained 19 people in four operations targeting illegal workers.

Officers from an Immigration Department task force raided 12 locations, including premises and flats under renovation, in one operation from Monday to Wednesday.

Two men and four women, aged 22 to 42, and their alleged male employer, 42, were arrested. A woman in possession of a recognisance form – a temporary identification document that allows holders to remain in the city but not to work – was among those arrested.

In another operation, joined by police, 40 locations in the northern New Territories were raided, with nine suspected illegal workers, aged 31 to 61, detained.

Two men were found to be holders of recognisance forms.

A suspected employer, 41, and two overstayers, aged 55 and 56, were also taken into custody.
