In a list created by Furniturebox, it highlighted the UK’s happiest places by speaking to more than 5,000 people across the country to see which areas top the list for “joy, belonging, and that all-important sense of home”.
Sharing how locations were ranked, Furniturebox said that it looked out for the key elements of: the beauty of the surroundings and green spaces, provision of good state schools, provision of affordable housing and access to quality pubs, restaurants, independent shops and cultural attractions.
For Hertfordshire, just one location made the list, with the town of Harpenden in 67th place out of 75.

Hertfordshire town named among the happiest places to live in the UK
The picturesque town of Harpenden has a lot to offer, from its range of pubs and restaurants to its green spaces and proximity to London.
Harpenden has long been popular amongst commuters since it is located just 25 miles north of the city.
In fact, you can reach the capital in just 30 minutes via the Thameslink railway line.
But, it’s not just the town’s transport links that make it a happy place to live, as Harpenden is surrounded by miles of countryside and is filled with plenty of green spaces offering the perfect mix of town and country.
One of the town’s most famous spots is Rothamsted Park since it is ideal for walks, picnics or sports.
Harpenden Common is also a popular walking spot as a designated nature reserve with over 400 species of flora and fauna.
After a wander, there are also plenty of pubs to wind down in, including the likes of The George of Harpenden, The White Horse, Fox Harpenden and The Old Bell.
The White Horse on Redbourn Lane has an impressive Google Reviews rating of 4.3 out of 5, with one recent guest sharing: “We went in for some drinks. Nice choices of drinks and relatively well priced.”
However, living in one of the UK’s happiest towns does come with a premium cost, according to Rightmove; the average price for a house in the town is £898,073.
